The model shop provides a dynamic, creative and engaging environment. You'll enjoy collaboration and owning individual responsibilities. We strive for you to grow and with our mentoring, we believe you will learn what it takes to be a professional model maker.
The Role:
You'll learn a wide range of skills and equipment. We'll cross train in all areas of our Model Shop and the related equipment including 3-d printing, wood, upholstery, machining, cnc machining, sheet metal, welding and painting. You'll have the opportunity to work cross functionally with designers, engineers and industry experts. In this reciprocal environment, you will determine the best methods and materials to develop a product.
Who you are:
  • Do you find yourself building, modeling or making things with your hands outside of class?
  • Do you love looking at sketches and making a 3-d version?
  • Are you passionate about building and crafting new things?
  • Are your favorite classes the hands-on ones?
  • Have you taken courses in: clay/foam modeling, mold making, finishing
  • Ideal degree: Model making degree
  • Provide a portfolio
  • Minimum coursework required: basic power tools classes
  • General model making skills in a variety of materials: wood, plastic, sheet metal, etc
  • Previous use of shop equipment (mill, lathe, saws, CNC)
